Our background in legal practices
Morris Crocker has acted for a large number of legal firms and other professional partnerships for over 100 years.
We have the expertise, experience and technical knowledge to meet the accounting needs of all solicitors but the largest legal practices on the South Coast.
Our aim is to provide a first class financial, accountancy and advisory service for YOUR practice. Our advice is both pro-active and personalised to you.
The legal sector is facing many challenges and the market for high-street practices is changing. Solicitors firms that do not anticipate those changes are unlikely to survive in the longer term. Our experienced accounting team at Morris Crocker can help you to plan for the future of your practice.
Our team
Our legal practices division is headed up by Richard Perry as Partner and by Gavin Whitter as Senior Manager. Both Richard and Gavin are members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Special Interest Group for Solicitors and regular attendees of the Institutes conference for this special interest group.
All other accounting staff working on solicitors assignments have a number of years experience of dealing with the legal profession and, of course, a thorough understanding of the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
Our services
Accounting and accounts appraisal
Your solicitors practice accounts are obviously vital to determine profit shares and assess the performance of your practice. We will produce your practice accounts for you and talk you through the results so that you have an understanding of your performance. We will also bring to your attention, not only those areas where there is good news, but also those areas where improvements can be made. We can then help you to implement procedures and strategies to improve your performance and help plan for succession.
Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) Reporting
Compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules is vital. The Law Society take a very strict view of continued/serious non-compliance and have a very strong, experienced Forensic Investigations department. We will report on your compliance each year and bring to the attention of the Partners those areas where breaches have occurred and where procedures can be improved.
Partnership taxation and partners’ Tax Returns
Partnership taxation is a specialised area and requires high level taxation and planning skills. Our taxation experienced team, which includes ex-Inland Revenue tax inspectors, is able to provide an efficient and pro-active service to partners in professional practices.
Advisory services
We also provide the following advisory services to the legal sector:
We are also accredited Expert Witnesses and offer various services to assist with solicitors own clients' e.g. Business Valuations in matrimonial disputes, acting as expert witness, taxation support and advice.
