Our annual seminar for charity trustees and staff has become an established event in the diaries of many charities who value this opportunity to update their knowledge and receive practical ideas to take away.

The aim of the seminar is to provide you with advice and guidance on matters of particular importance to your organisation. This year our topics are:

Guest Speakers

Ivor Bowen

Ivor Bowen is a Detective Sergeant with Hampshire Constabulary. He is currently involved in project work developing resources and training within the force and will soon be working across the South East policing region on further similar projects.

Ivor has over 27 years’ experience with the force and has worked in a variety of roles, including Major Crime Investigation, Child Abuse Investigation and various overt and covert intelligence roles investigating organised crime and both domestic and international extremism.

David Jones

David Jones joined the Charity Commission as Director of Corporate Services in April 2015. A Chartered Accountant, David was previously Head of Finance at Ordnance Survey, and prior to that, held senior positions in the Environment Agency.

As Director of Corporate Services, he is accountable for supporting the Accounting Officer (Chief Executive Officer) in the effective management of the commission’s resources, ensuring that it runs smoothly, efficiently and economically, achieving value for money for the taxpayer.

Paul Underwood

Paul Underwood, Director of Morris Crocker charities team and is a chartered certified accountant. He has almost 20 years’ experience of acting for a diverse range of charities and has a particular interest in the effect of VAT and taxation on the charitable sector.

As well as audit and compliance work, Paul also carries out Internal Examinations. He is a member of the Audit Faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and of the Charity & Voluntary Sector Group and currently acts as the treasurer for a local not-for-profit organisation.

Stuart Mackie

As senior manager of Morris Crocker’s charities team, Stuart is responsible for ensuring charities are run efficiently, both from a systems and from a tax perspective, and for ensuring they are fully compliant with current regulations and accounting standards.

Stuart is a chartered accountant and joined Morris Crocker in 2013 from a specialist not-for-profit London firm.  He has gained many insights from his role at board level for charity clients by attending meetings and advising on financial matters.
