The government is consulting on plans to make major changes to its official corporate register to limit the risk of fraud and misuse of information. If implemented, the reforms would see a complete overhaul of the register since it was first introduced in 1844.
The proposals are for Companies House to be given more power to check information and the identities of people setting up businesses, as well as the individuals who control them.
The consultation seeks the views of company directors and shareholders, business representative bodies and the general public on a series of reforms:
