Chancellor Phillip Hammond has revealed that the 2019 Spring Statement will be held on Wednesday 13 March, just 16 days before the UK leaves the EU.
In his Spring Statement Hammond will respond to the Office for Budget Responsibility’s (OBR) latest forecast and will give an update on the economy. It will not contain any major policy announcements.
Hammond announced his intentions that the Autumn Budget would be the one major fiscal event of the year in his Autumn Statement 2016. He pointed out that the UK is the only major advanced economy to make major changes to the tax system twice a year.
