Charities

If you are a charity or not-for-profit organisation, we are ideally placed to look after your financial interests.  As an independent practice we offer specialist expertise in charity accounting and services with a high degree of director involvement.

We understand the pressure to maximise funds and make the most of every fundraising opportunity. Led by director Paul Underwood and senior manager Stuart Mackie the Morris Crocker Charities team provides the strategic advice you need to achieve your organisation’s objectives.

Charities have been our specialist area for the past 20 years.  Over that time we have helped many charities at different stages of their development, from inception, through growth, and to maturity.

Our charity clients veary in size and activities and include professional institutions & associations, religious bodies, grant making trusts & foundations, education, youth and arts organisations, and welfare, environment and healthcare charities.

We are based on the south coast and our spread of clients ranges from very local to London-based charities and beyond.

Alongside our audit and accountancy compliance services we offer:

  • Support to charities looking for a professionally qualified partner who understands their challenges and who has considerable experience in the principals of Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP)
  • Assistance with implementing systems and procedures for effective accounting, tax planning and VAT management
  • Advice on governance matters, risk management strategies and internal controls
  • Effective and sustainable solutions to create better planning and operational management within your charity
  • Assistance with incorporations, mergers and closures
  • Advice on setting up non-charitable trading subsidiaries

We produce our own monthly charities enews advising of any changes in legislation and financial news update.

Audit and Independent Examinations

As chartered accountants and registered auditors we are able to verify the accounts of charities of all sizes and provide assurance by means of an independent accountants report or a full audit report.  By focussing on the issues that are relevant to your charity we aim to add value through our audit process by identifying areas for improvements and efficiencies.

The Morris Crocker Annual Seminar for Charities

As part of our work with charities each May we hold a free annual seminar at the Solent Hotel in Whiteley, near Fareham.  Its purpose is to update and inform charities on the latest financial and management-related issues and is suitable for charity trustees and staff of small to medium-sized charities.

The seminar has been running for sixteen years and is now an established event in the diaries of many charities.  Our guest speakers in the past have included: the Big Lottery Fund; former chief executive of the Charity Commission, Andrew Hind; economic commentators; and case studies presented by our own charity clients.

At the conclusion of each seminar we ask delegates to suggest subjects for future seminars.  This usually generates a wide range of responses, indicating the many areas of concern for most charities.  It is informaton we can then use to plan subsequent seminars.

You can read what people said about our 2017 seminar held on 22 May here
