For over 20 years we have been providing this special opportunity for charity trustees and staff to update their knowledge on key matters and receive practical ideas to take away.

Our main focus this year is on charity governance. You will hear from the charity Commission on governance and their latest advise on guidance which came into force in March, this will cover how this will impact charities and their trustees. As always this proves to be a popular subject at our seminar, for charity staff and trustees to keep up to date.

A further topic we will cover is charity borrowing. Providing a better understanding of what is required, who can apply, or even if a loan is the best option for your charity. Charity bank will present the considerations for borrowing to help further your charities mission.

Directors Stuart Mackie and Paul Underwood from Morris Crocker's charities team will be providing a summary of the latest charity tax and accounting news, a look at how to improve your trustees report and Paul will be chairing the event.

Refreshments will be served after the seminar for those who wish to stay and talk to our speakers or network with other attendees.

Guest Speakers

David Brinsford

Lending Manager

As a Lending Manager I am responsible for the lending that we make to organisations who can clearly demonstrate the social impact that they deliver. I am immensely privileged to spend my time meeting organisations who deliver so much good and that support some of the most disadvantaged people in our society.

David joined Charity Bank in 2020 and has over 40 years’ experience in financial services, including 10 years in one of NatWest’s Charity Teams.

Mazeda Alam

Charity Commission for England and Wales

Mazeda Alam has worked at the Charity Commission for 16 years, initially as a case officer providing advice and legal authority on a wide range of issues including charities seeking to modernise their trusts. She joined the guidance team around 6 years ago and worked on the Commission’s 5 minute guides. She became head of the team around 3 years ago, in which time the team has produced new guidance about charities using social media and ensured that all guidance affected by Charities Act 2022 is updated.

Host Speaker

Stuart Mackie

Director at Morris Crocker Accountants

As a director of our charities team, Stuart is responsible for ensuring charities are run efficiently, both from a systems and from a tax perspective, and for ensuring they are fully compliant with current regulations and accounting standards.

Stuart is a chartered accountant and joined Morris Crocker in 2013 from a specialist not-for-profit London firm. He has gained many insights from his role at board level for charity clients by attending meetings and advising on financial matters.

Chair

Paul Underwood

Director at Morris Crocker Accountants

Paul has over 20 years’ experience of acting for a diverse range of charities and has a particular interest in the effect of VAT and taxation on the charitable sector.

As well as audit and compliance work, Paul also carries out Internal Examinations. He is a member of the Audit Faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and of the Charity & Voluntary Sector Group and currently acts as the treasurer for a local non-profit organisation.

What our clients say...

"We appointed Morris Crocker for our annual accounts and audit and found them to be professional, thorough and experienced. During the audit they offered solutions to various issues that we were experiencing. The "audit findings" report was in depth and focused on not only what they had found but the best way to resolve anything identified. They also went above and beyond while producing our consolidated accounts taking it upon themselves to make sure that mapping to the previous year meant that they were giving us the best possible comparisons. The original tender was for 1 year and we have now appointed Morris Crocker for a further two years."
