Senior Digital Accountant / Digital Accounting Manager

Morris Crocker, Port Solent, Portsmouth
Full-time, permanent

We are looking for a Senior Digital Accountant / Digital Accounting Manager to help lead and develop our digital accounting services.

This is an important role for the firm. Online accounting, Making Tax Digital, AI, automation and better use of accounting systems are now central to how clients manage their records and how we deliver advice. We are looking for someone who can help clients move to better digital systems, support our internal teams, and bring a practical, calm and commercial approach to change.

This is not just a bookkeeping support role. We need someone who understands accounts, client records, deadlines, VAT, management information and how to turn software into something genuinely useful for clients.

The role

You will work with clients and our internal teams on Xero, QuickBooks, Dext, Fathom and other connected apps. You will help with software conversions, client onboarding, workflow improvements, Making Tax Digital readiness, staff training and digital advisory projects. You will also be a key point of contact for Managers and Directors where clients need support moving away from older systems, spreadsheets or manual processes.

The right person will probably have experience in an accountancy practice and be confident dealing with clients. You should be comfortable with Xero, interested in the direction of travel for AI and automation, and able to explain things in plain English.

If you can make a client feel less terrified about digital change, that will be considered a very useful life skill.

Main responsibilities

  • Supporting clients with Xero, QuickBooks and app-based accounting systems
  • Managing or assisting with client conversions from older systems, spreadsheets or manual records
  • Helping clients improve bookkeeping processes, document capture and reporting
  • Supporting Making Tax Digital readiness and digital record-keeping
  • Working with Directors and Managers on digital advisory opportunities
  • Helping train and support staff internally
  • Liaising with software providers and keeping the firm aware of key product changes
  • Developing consistent processes, guidance notes and internal best practice for digital accounting work
  • Supporting clients to make better use of management information and reporting tools

What we are looking for

  • Experience in an accountancy practice environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero
  • Experience in accounts, bookkeeping, management accounts or client advisory work
  • Confidence speaking to clients and explaining systems clearly
  • A practical understanding of accounts preparation and client records
  • Interest in Making Tax Digital, AI, automation and digital workflows
  • Good organisation and follow-through
  • A calm and sensible approach when software does what software occasionally likes to do
  • A willingness to help shape and improve how we deliver digital accounting services
