Senior Accountant / Client Manager (Digital, Cloud & AI Enabled)

Location: Port Solent – Lake House, 2 Port Way, Port Solent, Portsmouth, PO6 4TY
Working hours: 37.5 hours (Monday to Friday) with flexible start and finish times
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience) + benefit
Closing date: 1st April 2026
Reporting to: Client Director

The short version

We’re looking for a senior accountant who enjoys managing client relationships as much as getting the numbers right. You’ll take ownership of a portfolio, become the go to adviser for your clients, and help deliver a modern service using cloud accounting, reporting tools, and practical automation / AI assisted workflows.

About the role

This is a senior, client facing role where you’ll combine technical delivery with relationship ownership. You’ll work closely with clients to understand what matters to them, keep work moving smoothly, and spot opportunities to improve their finance processes and reporting.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing a varied portfolio of clients and acting as their main point of contact — building trusted, long term relationships.
  • Leading delivery: preparing/reviewing accounts and related compliance work, ensuring accuracy, deadlines and a consistently high standard.
  • Providing proactive advice — translating numbers into clear actions and helping clients make better decisions (not just reporting history).
  • Producing (and improving) management accounts, reporting packs and dashboards where valuable for clients.
  • Driving great client experience: anticipating questions, resolving issues quickly, and keeping communication clear and professional.
  • Supporting client onboarding and improvements: helping clients adopt cloud tools and better ways of working (including sensible automation).
  • Reviewing and mentoring junior team members, supporting their development and ensuring work is delivered efficiently and correctly.
  • Playing an active part in client retention and growth through excellent service and relationship management.

What you bring

  • ACA/ACCA part/fully qualified (or equivalent) with experience in a senior accounts’ role within practice.
  • Strong client relationship skills — confident communicating, setting expectations and building trust.
  • Solid technical ability and attention to detail, with the judgement to review work and coach others.
  • Comfortable with cloud accounting and modern reporting tools (e.g., Xero/Dext/Fathom or similar).
  • Interest in improving workflows and reducing manual effort using automation / AI supported approaches where appropriate.

Why join Morris Crocker

Because this is a place where great client work and modern ways of working actually go together. You’ll have the trust and space to build strong client relationships, deliver a consistently high standard, and improve how work gets done — with a firm that’s actively investing in a modern approach.

What you’ll get (the good stuff):

  • Real progression: a clear pathway towards Client Manager roles, with regular 1 2 1s and development reviews to keep things moving.
  • Modern working support: ongoing investment in technology and process improvements so you can spend more time advising clients and less time battling admin.
  • Balance that actually works: a 37.5 hour week, flexible start/finish times, and 28 days’ holiday (including statutory days) with the option to buy more.
  • Reward and security: annual bonus scheme, pension and life assurance (2x salary).
  • A team you’ll enjoy working with: a collaborative, supportive culture and regular social events (summer + Christmas celebrations).

Graduate Tax Trainee

Location: Port Solent – Lake House, 2 Port Way, Port Solent, Portsmouth, PO6 4TY – Office based
Working hours: 37.5 hours (Monday to Friday) with flexible start and finish times
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience) + benefit
Closing date: 1st April 2026
Reporting to: Tax Manager

Why this role exists

Tax is changing fast. Making Tax Digital (MTD), better software, and sensible use of AI are turning “busy work” into smarter work. We want a graduate or entry level joiner who’s keen to learn tax properly and enjoys working with modern tools to make processes quicker, cleaner and more accurate.

About us

With over 125 years of history, Morris Croker stands as one of the South's leading independent accountancy firms. We offer comprehensive accountancy, audit, and tax services, all while maintaining a strong commitment to practical client solutions. We’re independently owned and combine long experience with a forward-thinking approach and personal service.

What you’ll be doing (your day-to-day)

This is a training role, so you’ll get support — but you’ll also be doing real work from day one.

1) Tax compliance (the essentials)

  • Supporting the preparation of tax returns and related compliance tasks (with review and training).
  • Collecting and organising client information, keeping records complete and consistent.
  • Learning how deadlines, checklists and review processes work in practice.

2) MTD & digital tax workflow

  • Helping clients and the team work with digital records and MTD-related processes.
  • Using and improving templates/checklists so work is consistent and efficient.
  • Spotting gaps in client data early to avoid January chaos.

3) AI & IT in a practical way

  • Using AI tools to support drafting, summarising, and sense-checking with human review.
  • Helping improve the way we use technology across the tax workflow.
  • Getting involved in small internal “process improvement” projects.

What we’re looking for

You’re likely a good fit if you:

  • Have a degree or similar (any discipline considered — but finance, economics, maths, business, data, or similar is a bonus).
  • Are confident with everyday IT (Microsoft Suites, file management, online portals, learning new software).
  • Have strong attention to detail.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and clients.
  • Genuinely enjoy improving how things are done, not just following last year’s method “because it’s always been that way”.

Nice-to-haves (not essential)

  • Any placement / part-time experience in finance, admin, or customer service.
  • An interest in tax, data, automation, AI, or digital tools.

What you’ll get

  • A real training environment with proper support and learning.
  • Studying either AAT or CTA with study support.
  • Exposure to modern tax delivery: MTD, tech-enabled processes, and sensible AI use.
  • A firm that blends trusted experience with modern working — independently owned, sector-aware, and focused on long-term client relationships.
  • New modern office working environment
