Insurer Admiral has issued a warning to individuals seeking online bargains over the festive period.
It stated that, during the holiday season, cyber threats are more heightened as more people are shopping online.
Common Christmas scams include malware and ransomware; phishing scams; social media scams; misleading ads and fake websites. Admiral said it is vital to be aware of these threats in order to protect yourself.
The insurer also shared some top tips for staying safe online during the festive period. These include using strong and unique passwords; being cautious with emails and links; only shopping on reputable websites; enabling two-factor authentication; and using secure payment methods.
Admiral also suggests updating software on your devices; avoiding public Wi-Fi for sensitive transactions; and monitoring your accounts for unusual activity.
