Personal tax client
Introduced a good many years ago to Morris Crocker by one of our staff, the client was in need of advice to manage and grow a small property investment business. Juggling the demands of working for himself and looking after his rental properties left the client with little time to keep his figures up to date for his end of year tax return. He was also in the dark as to what expenses and allowances he could claim, especially as he was running his business from home.
Over time the client has built up a substantial portfolio. We regularly provide him with rental income schedules for inclusion in his self assessment and prepare his business accounts. Not only do we advise our client on any changes in legislation which may have a bearing, we proactively look for practical ways to help him in his business, such as providing online accounting.
Saving tax is always high on the list for clients whatever their business or situation. In the case of this client we have recently advised him on a schedule that involves restructuring the business model in order to keep tax costs to a minimum.
Inheritance tax has also been a major concern. We have advised on various ways to reduce the impact including strategic gifts, insurance policies and potential trust arrangements.
We have removed the client's name from this case study to protect their identity.
